Petition to the City Government of Winter Park Regarding the Lease of Austin’s Coffee and Film
Date: 12/4/2024
To: The City Government of Winter Park
Attn: Mayor and Commissioners
Winter Park, FL
Subject: Request for Assistance with Lease Renewal or Relocation of Austin’s Coffee and Film
Dear Members of the Winter Park City Government,
We, the undersigned residents, customers, and supporters of Austin’s Coffee and Film, respectfully petition the city government to take action on behalf of this beloved community business. For over 21 years, Austin’s Coffee and Film has been an integral part of Winter Park, providing a unique space for coffee lovers, performing arts enthusiasts, and those seeking a welcoming and creative environment.
As you may be aware, the current lease for the property housing Austin’s Coffee and Film is expiring next year. This creates a significant challenge for the business, which is concerned about its ability to continue operating at its current location. The closure of Austin’s would not only be a great loss to Winter Park’s cultural landscape but also impact local patrons, employees, and the wider community that has grown to love this one-of-a-kind venue.
We are requesting the following from the City of Winter Park:
Option A: Lease Extension
We ask the city to facilitate a lease extension or a renegotiation of terms with the property owner to allow Austin’s Coffee and Film to remain at its current location for a longer period. An extension would provide stability for the business, giving it the time and resources necessary to adapt and plan for the future.
Option B: Relocation Assistance
If a lease extension is not possible, we respectfully request that the city assist in covering the cost of relocating the business to a new location. Austin’s Coffee and Film is a vital part of our community, and without assistance, there is a real risk that the business may be forced to close. Financial support from the city could help offset relocation expenses and ensure that this community hub remains in Winter Park.
Austin’s Coffee and Film is more than just a coffee shop or movie theater; it is a gathering place for local residents, an artist showcase, and a space for meaningful cultural experiences. It represents the type of locally owned, community-focused businesses that make Winter Park unique. We believe that with the city’s support, Austin’s can continue to thrive, contributing to the vitality and creative spirit of our town.
We urge the Winter Park City Government to take swift and decisive action on behalf of Austin’s Coffee and Film and the Winter Park community. We thank you for your attention to this matter and for considering our request to either extend the lease or assist with relocation.
Sincerely,
